Repatriation to Romania
Obtaining Romanian citizenship has its own specific requirements. First, you must collect the following basic documents:
- civil passport;
- international passport;
- 2 photographs;
- birth certificate;
- marriage certificate;
- divorce certificate;
- birth certificate of a Romanian ancestor;
- application for reinstatement of Romanian citizenship;
- completed personal liability forms;
- police clearance certificate.
All documents issued outside Romania must be translated, notarized, and apostilled.
Secondly, individuals who have ever lost citizenship due to circumstances beyond their control, and their descendants up to the third generation, are required to provide proof of residence in the historical lands of Bessarabia and Bukovina (Chernivtsi and Odessa Oblasts, excluding the city of Odessa) between 1918 and 1940!
For example, a certified extract from the 1930 population census or a post-war village household register documenting the relative’s residence during this period.
